WE ARE BACK!

It seems like yesterday that the Eagles faithful were celebrating a title winning season with their future being confirmed in pool B of the Ambassador league. But after mixed results in pre season, the time had arrived and the new season was underway.

The Droitwich side were set to face against a multitude of familiar opponents this season and perhaps none more so than West Worcester. A local derby that had seen both sides get the better of one another over the recent seasons.

West Worcester started the first half on the front foot. Some great football across the defence resulting in some threatening wing play. Eagles held there line but it was only a matter of time before the deadlock was broken. Worcester awarded a penalty on 8 minutes which was slotted home

0-1

Conceding the first goal seemed to give the Droitwich side a boost and it wasn’t long before Eagles were in the counter. The ball being released from midfield in to Alfie A, which saw the striker at full tilt spearing into the 18 yard box. What looked like a last ditch attempt to retrieve the situation saw Alfie brought down in the box and awarded a penalty on 20 mins. After a consultation with the linesman the ref decided to controversially rescind the penalty.

Eagles continued to control the game, before a break from Worcester saw them 0-2 up on 30 mins.

Expecting to go in at half time with a 0-2 deficit, Eagles were awarded a penalty. Kaleb stepped up and calmly sent the ball to the keepers left.

HT 1-2

Eagles continued their momentum into the second half and whilst the Worcester side had a few positive spells, Eagles were in control. 20 mins into the second half, Alfie A capitalised on a mistake between the Worcester centre half and their keeper and brought the game level.

On the 70th minute, Eagles forced a corner and an opportunity to pull a goal clear. Fred ( I think) fizzed the ball into the 6 yard box and a glancing header from Alfie A hit the side netting to bag his brace of the game and bring Eagles a goal clear.

Edge of the seat stuff as we entered into the last 10 minutes with Worcester searching for an equaliser. The Droitwich side dug in and kept the relentless threats at bay but it was only a matter of time before the game was levelled. Worcester hitting the back of the net on 75th minute.

Arguably a draw would have been a fair result, but in the dying minutes of the game, Leilan was brought down inside the 18 yard box and Spa were awarded the 3rd (4th) penalty of the game. Again, it was down to Kaleb to grab all three points and did so with yet another calm and controlled finish.
